Real work, real wins, real jobs!

For Emily Betts, Sophie Lamb, and Claudia Greene, studying event management at TAFE Queensland’s Robina campus has been a game-changer, leading them into paid roles and launching their careers before even graduating.

With a mix of hard work, hands-on learning and vocational placement, these future event-planning powerhouses are proving they’re ready to run the show—literally.

Emily Betts, 25, is still pinching herself after landing a Event Coordinator role with Accor at Peppers Resort in Kingscliff despite not having the usual two years of experience required for the role.

“I couldn’t believe it,” she said.

“Here I was, a student doing my internship still studying my diploma and they offered me a coordinator position.”

“I asked a million questions, soaked up every bit of knowledge, and showed them I was serious about this career,” Emily said.

“I’m so grateful for my TAFE Queensland teachers who provided me with the tools and industry connections to succeed.”

Emily also credits her success to the practical skills and industry knowledge she gained during her studies.

“The diploma gave me a strong foundation to build on, and my internship helped me understand how the industry operates in real life. Asking questions and showing enthusiasm helped me stand out.”

Meanwhile, 23-year-old Sophie Lamb managed to land two dream jobs. On one hand, she’s an Event Assistant at CBUS Stadium, handling major gigs like the Australian Men’s FIFA World Cup qualifying match and international rock concerts. On the other hand, she’s coordinating weddings with boutique company Under the Arbour.

“One day, I’m planning a stadium rock concert or a world soccer match and the next, I’m helping brides make their Pinterest boards come to life,” said Sophie.

“My TAFE Queensland teachers gave me the confidence to juggle it all, the industry connections to make it happen and the practical training to transition to the workplace.”

Fellow Diploma of Event Management student (SIT50322 ), Claudia Greene, also a Wedding Coordinator with Under the Arbour, brings her own flair to the team crafting beautiful wedding experiences.

“I was surprised by how easily I could transfer my orgnisational skills into the business. Early on, I suggested some changes that made a big difference, and it felt great to contribute so quickly," said Claudia.

“My childhood dream of being a wedding planner has come full circle. Helping couples create their dream day is so rewarding, I love working with them to make it happen," she said.

Emily, Sophie, and Claudia have shown determination and a willingness to learn can open doors to exciting possibilities. Their internships not only offered valuable experience but also became steppingstones to roles in the industry.

By combining theory with real-world experiences and connecting students with industry partners, TAFE Queensland ensures graduates are career-ready.
