Smart Factory Lab powers future-focused training for REFF
TAFE Queensland’s cutting-edge Smart Factory Lab is set to play a pivotal role in delivering training aligned with the Regional Economic Futures Fund (REFF), supporting Queensland’s transition to a net-zero economy.
Located at the Ipswich campus, the Smart Factory Lab showcases advanced manufacturing technologies including robotic arms, autonomous robots, Arduino simulators, and PLC systems.
Emerging Industries Business Development Manager Sue Sheppard recently visited the Smart Factory Lab to explore how its capabilities can support REFF’s five major projects.
The tools will be instrumental in upskilling REFF educators to deliver both accredited and non-accredited training programs such as the Certificate II in Autonomous Technology, PLC skillsets, and targeted micro-credentials at REFF hubs in Toowoomba, Kingaroy and Mount Isa.
“The Smart Factory is more than a showcase - it’s a training powerhouse,” she said.
“It’s where we can build the skills needed for Queensland’s renewable energy future, from automation to smart systems.”
Industry partners involved in REFF including training equipment manufacturers – are also expected to benefit from the Smart Factory’s resources.
The lab has already hosted industry tours and an open day, offering stakeholders a firsthand look at the technology that will underpin future workforce development.
“The Smart Factory gives us a platform to engage directly with industry and educators, and upskill REFF educators using the most advanced technologies,” Ms Sheppard added.
“It’s about preparing people not just for today’s jobs, but for the industries of tomorrow.”
As REFF and TAFE Queensland’s Centres of Excellence continue to roll out across Queensland, the Smart Factory Lab will be central to providing skilled educators for the delivery of innovative, future-ready training that supports sustainable jobs and stronger regional economies.
