TAFE Queensland launches 62 micro-credentials to power Australia's renewable future

In a bold step toward accelerating Australia’s transition to renewable energy and critical minerals industries, TAFE Queensland has unveiled a suite of 62 micro-credentials developed under the Regional Economic Futures Fund (REFF).

This transformative launch includes 19 brand-new micro-credentials and 43 curated value-adds from an existing suite of micro-credentials TAFE Queensland is already offering - facilitating the transition to renewable energy empowering individuals with new skills, creating pathways into new job opportunities and supporting cross-sector transitions.

The micro-credentials are organised into two dynamic industry dashboards:

These dashboards serve as central hubs for learners and employers alike, offering fast, flexible, and targeted training aligned with national standards and industry expectations.

The REFF Micro-credentials are designed to be accessible and efficient, with foundational courses taking just 1–2 hours and intermediate technical modules requiring 3-4 hours.

This structure allows learners to quickly gain practical knowledge and environmentally sustainable practices whether they are new to the industry or seeking to upskill.

Study areas span from broad industry overviews to job-specific technical training, including topics like project management, solar technician skills, and cross-sector competencies applicable across construction, maintenance, and energy roles.

What sets these micro-credentials apart is their deep integration with industry needs.

Developed in collaboration with industry reference groups and subject matter experts, each micro-credential reflects real-world challenges and opportunities.

This ensures that learners gain relevant, actionable insights that directly support job performance and career progression.

“These micro-credentials are not just educational tools - they are strategic workforce solutions,” said TAFE Queensland Director Product Tracey Singh.

“They have been validated by industry partners to ensure they deliver the skills employers are actively seeking.”

These micro-credentials are particularly impactful in regional areas, where mobile training hubs and pilot programs are being rolled out to ensure accessibility and community engagement.

The REFF Micro-credentials are developed in accordance with the National Micro-credential Framework, ensuring consistency, credibility, and recognition across Australia.

TAFE Queensland has confirmed that additional REFF Micro-credentials will be added to the suite throughout the year, expanding the catalogue and responding to emerging industry needs.

With 62 micro-credentials already available and more on the horizon, the REFF project initiative is poised to become a cornerstone of Australia’s renewable energy workforce strategy - empowering individuals, energising communities, and driving sustainable growth.
