Academy of Sport partnership to elevate athlete wellbeing education
TAFE Queensland’s Academy of Sport is proud to announce a new five-year partnership with the Wellbeing Science Institute (WSI), taking an important step forward for the wellbeing workforce in Australian sport.
Together, WSI and TAFE Queensland will deliver the Certificate IV in Elite Athlete Wellbeing Management (11096NAT) - a landmark qualification designed to support the holistic development of elite athletes, their families, and the professionals who guide them.
WSI created the world’s first national qualification in elite athlete wellbeing management and has spent almost a decade working alongside leading organisations - including the NRL, Premier League, League Managers Association, FA, Women’s Pro Leagues, and European football clubs such as Manchester City FC, Arsenal FC, and Bayern Munich.
Their graduates are now embedded in some of the world’s most respected sporting teams, governing bodies, and academic institutions, shaping wellbeing practices at the highest level.
Partnering with TAFE Queensland – Queensland’s largest and most experienced training provider - means this qualification can now reach even more learners nationwide.
Delivered entirely online through TAFE Queensland’s flexible online learning platform, the program allows aspiring wellbeing professionals to study from anywhere in Australia while balancing work, sport, and life commitments.
This accessibility is crucial as the demand for qualified wellbeing specialists continues to grow across high-performance sport.
Students will gain expertise across health sciences, positive and cross-cultural psychology, leadership, coaching, and career development.
They will learn how to assess, develop, and monitor athlete wellbeing using evidence-based processes, create tailored wellbeing plans for athletes and coaches, and build the personal capabilities needed to model positive behaviours.
These skills are central to building environments where athletes can thrive - not just in performance, but as people.
This industry partnership will strengthen Australia’s future wellbeing workforce and ensure that athlete welfare is treated as a core pillar of performance and long-term sustainability in elite sport.
The Academy of Sport will now be able to upskill more people than ever before, helping passionate learners launch meaningful careers in a rapidly growing and increasingly important sector.
Together, TAFE Queensland and the Wellbeing Science Institute are setting a new benchmark for athlete wellbeing education, creating practical pathways grounded in real-world evidence that elevate care, leadership, and performance across the entire sporting landscape.
