Lilly’s love for learning drives her early childhood education career
For Lilly Caulfield, pursuing a career in early childhood education wasn’t just a decision but a lifelong dream.
From a young age, she knew she wanted to work with children; a passion led her to TAFE Queensland.
After finishing high school in 2022, Lilly wasted no time getting started. She entered full-time work at a childcare centre while completing her Certificate III in Early Childhood Education (CHC30121) in just six months.
Recognising her potential, she was awarded the 2024 TAFE Queensland Merit Scholarship, allowing her to continue her studies and complete her Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (CNC50121) in another six months.
Her qualifications equipped her with the specialised skills and knowledge needed to start and progress her career, preparing her for roles as an educator and giving her the foundation to step into a supervisor role when the time comes.
She also learned how to design and implement early childhood programs that support young children's emotional, physical, cognitive, and social development.
Guided by her industry professional teachers, Lilly gained the essential planning, evaluation, and regulatory compliance to ensure high-quality education and care.
Currently working at Coomera Clubhouse on the Gold Coast, Lilly’s journey is a testament to dedication, resilience, and the power of education.
At her graduation ceremony, Lilly reflected on the hard work, determination, and sacrifices that led her to this moment.
Like many of her fellow graduates, she embarked on her studies with a clear goal: to build a better future for herself and her family while making a meaningful impact on the lives of children.
Lilly’s commitment to her education was not without challenges. Juggling full-time work, an accelerated study load, and pregnancy, she persevered through long days and late-night study sessions.
“It certainly wasn’t easy studying three or four units per intake, working full-time, and being heavily pregnant by the end,” she shared.
“I would not have been able to complete my goals without the unwavering guidance and support of my TAFE Queensland educators, my incredible colleagues, and my family.”
Now a qualified early childhood educator, thriving in an industry she’s passionate about, Lilly is eager to take the next step in her journey.
Lily plans to begin a Bachelor of Education in 2025, supported by her TAFE Queensland Merit Scholarship and $3,000 Executive Dean Award, recognising her excellence in leadership, professionalism, and relationship-building during 280 hours of Vocational Work Placement.
She encourages others to embrace lifelong learning, take on challenges, and never settle for second best.
For Lilly, education is more than just a qualification—it’s a pathway to making a difference. Her advice to future students? Ask questions, seek feedback, and never stop striving for excellence.
“By doing so, together we can make great happen,” concluded Lilly.
