Powering Queensland’s future with battery skills training

The TAFE Centre of Excellence Clean Energy Batteries is advancing training to support state and national energy goals.

Battery technology will play a pivotal role as Queensland transitions to a more resilient energy future.

The Queensland Energy Roadmap 2025 outlines a $400 million investment in renewables and batteries to better store energy, manage grid fluctuations, and ensure reliable power during peak demand.

Supporting the energy transformation is the $20 million TAFE Centre of Excellence Clean Energy Batteries.

The Centre is exploring and developing innovative training - from micro-credentials to higher-level pathways - to equip the workforce with the skills needed to build, install and maintain battery technologies.

A key focus of the Centre is ensuring training is culturally safe and appropriate and accessible to regional and remote communities.

With a commitment to sharing best practice teaching and learning with the TAFE sector nationally, the Centre is also helping to strengthen the vocational education and training system for the benefit of all Australians.

TAFE-trained technicians will play a vital role in installing and maintaining battery systems and this workforce is expected to grow in the coming years to support state and national renewable energy goals.

As the energy sector continues to evolve and expand, the Centre will play a vital role in ensuring Queensland and Australia has the workforce ready to power a sustainable future.

The TAFE Centre of Excellence Clean Energy Batteries, led by TAFE Queensland, is a joint initiative between the Australian and Queensland Governments to 2028.
