TAFE Queensland students gain exclusive industry experience with Gravity Media
A new partnership between TAFE Queensland and Gravity Media is opening doors for students to gain real-world experience in the film and television sector.
The collaboration, initiated by Karen Graham, Industry Skills and Jobs Advisor for Screen, Media, and the Arts, provides work-integrated learning opportunities for students from TAFE Queensland’s Gold Coast and Mt Gravatt campuses.
Gravity Media collaborated with the team at TAFE Queensland to develop an application process and site inductions, ensuring that learning and work outcomes were met for both students and Gravity staff.
Gravity Media is a global media production company providing creative services and facilities that streamline workflows and support events of any size worldwide.
Gravity Media Audio Assist, Claudia, enjoyed the opportunity to work with the students.
“The students showed a keen interest in knowing and learn. Their time on the outside broadcast gave them an overview of equipment, roles and industry terminology.”
During their recent placement, Diploma of Screen and Media (Film and TV Production) (CUA51020 - FILMTV) students Mitchell Gibson-Forrest, Jack Dwyer, and Cleopatra Deacon explored professional broadcast equipment and gained hands-on skills directly from industry experts, gaining invaluable knowledge that extends beyond the classroom.
Jack Dwyer reflected on the experience, saying: “It was a great opportunity, and I hope to do it again!”
TAFE Queensland Educational Team Leader Sonia Bible praised the collaboration, noting the professionalism of Gravity Media’s team:
“The team at Gravity Media have been very professional and amazing to work with. These experiences create real pathways to future employment.”
This initiative underscores the significance of industry partnerships in equipping students for the workforce, ensuring they graduate with both technical expertise and practical knowledge.
With Queensland’s creative industries continuing to grow, programs like this are vital in building the next generation of skilled professionals.
The Industry Skills and Jobs Advisor program is funded by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training. The Screen, Media and the Arts role is hosted by Essential Screen Skills.
