Free battery training is helping Izack power his future

Izack's career has been powered by a commitment to continuous learning, with TAFE Queensland supporting him every step of the way.

After beginning his electrical apprenticeship at the Acacia Ridge campus, Izack has returned to further his skills in one of Australia's fastest-growing and most in-demand industries.

Most recently, he completed the four-day Grid-Connected Battery Storage Systems Designer-Installer Skill Set (UEESS00191) through the TAFE Centre of Excellence Clean Energy Batteries, which is fully funded for eligible participants.

After nearly a decade as a licensed electrician, primarily working on residential new builds, Izack was preparing for the next chapter of his career - launching his own business. Recognising the growing demand for clean energy solutions, he jumped at the opportunity to upskill at no cost.

With battery storage set to play an increasingly important role in Australia's energy future, the course offered the perfect opportunity to future-proof both his skills and his new business.

One of the biggest takeaways from the program was the importance of customer communication when designing energy solutions. 

"The classroom training really reinforced the importance of understanding what a customer wants to achieve. It's about having the right conversations, understanding their goals and designing a solution that suits their needs now and into the future," Izack said.

The hands-on workshop component also provided valuable exposure to a range of battery technologies and manufacturers. 

"I primarily work with Sigenergy and Deye systems, but I'd like to expand into Tesla products as well. Having the opportunity to work with different brands and meet manufacturer representatives gave me exposure that would be difficult to get elsewhere - it was incredibly valuable."

Working across multiple battery platforms has given Izack greater confidence to offer customers a broader range of solutions while staying current in a rapidly evolving industry.

The course is already delivering real benefits for his new business. With his accreditation now complete, Izack can confidently manage Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) requirements and help customers access available incentives.

"Completing the course has given me the confidence and accreditation I need to move forward and support my customers from start to finish," he said.

For a business owner in the early stages of growth, access to free training has been a game changer. 

"Being able to access fully funded training in such a high-demand industry while starting my own business has been invaluable," Izack said. 

"It's given me a real head start. I'll be able to offer clients complete home energy solutions, from design through to installation, straight away. The money I would have spent on this training can now go towards setting up and growing my business."

As Australia's energy sector continues to evolve, electricians are finding new opportunities to build their expertise and diversify their services. For Izack, returning to TAFE Queensland has helped power the next stage of his career.

From apprentice to accredited battery installer and business owner, his journey highlights how investing in new skills can open the door to new opportunities.

With fresh knowledge, valuable industry connections and growing confidence, Izack's future looks bright, and his business is already fully charged for success.
