Free battery training powers up sustainable energy skills

Electricians are being provided with free battery training to support Australia's sustainable energy transition.

With growing demand for sustainable energy solutions and a shortage of skilled and qualified workers, a cohort of licensed electricians is taking the opportunity to upskill through free battery training at TAFE Queensland.

Provided by the TAFE Centre of Excellence Clean Energy Batteries, the fully funded four-day Grid-Connected Battery Storage Systems Designer-Installer Skill Set (UEESS00191) is helping electricians gain the qualifications needed to meet industry demand.

The cohort includes electricians who either run their own businesses or work across the electrical industry, all recognising the growing demand and opportunity within the rapidly expanding battery storage sector.

Upon completion, participants Nick, Izack, Arvin, Clinton, Harry and Jordan will have the skills and nationally recognised qualification required to design and install grid-connected battery storage systems, helping build workforce capability in one of Australia's fastest-growing energy sectors.

The value of the free training has attracted electricians from across Queensland, including Arvin, who travelled more than five hours from Bundaberg to Brisbane to take part in the course and expand his expertise in battery and solar installations to support the increasing demand in his home region.

For electricians running their own businesses, the opportunity to undertake the training at no cost is particularly significant. Student Izack said the course would allow him to broaden the services he offers to customers while positioning his business to meet growing demand in the renewable energy market.

The TAFE Centre of Excellence Clean Energy Batteries, led by TAFE Queensland, is a joint initiative of the Australian and Queensland Governments that will operate through to 2028.
