Tracy dons the green and gold
Few people understand the beauty industry quite like Tracy Fearn.
Tracy began a Diploma of Health Sciences and Beauty Therapy at just 17 years old. By 19, she was opening her own beauty salon in the Dandenong Ranges, southeast of Melbourne.
She successfully ran the business for seven years before transitioning into teaching, eager to share her insights with the next generation.
“I wanted to pass on my love, my experiences and my knowledge to the next wave of beauty therapists,” explained Tracy.
That passion for sharing her “tips, tricks and techniques,” as she describes them, eventually led her into a role supporting educators at TAFE Queensland’s Robina campus.
“Over time, I’ve moved into a broader role supporting not just learners, but also educators in designing engaging and effective training experiences,” she said.
For Tracy, the most rewarding part of her work is simple:
“Seeing growth in others,” said Tracy.
“Whether it’s a learner developing confidence, an educator trying a new approach, or a competitor stepping up to a higher level - those moments where someone realises what they’re capable of are incredibly rewarding ‘I love that!’”
Now, Tracy is preparing for an exciting new chapter.
She has been selected as an Expert for the Australian WorldSkills team, the Skillaroos, who will compete in Shanghai, China this September. Often described as the “Olympics of Skills,” the competition brings together top competitors from around the world to go head-to-head across a wide range of industry skills.
“It’s a real honour and something I’m genuinely proud of,” she said.
“As a Skills Expert, I’ll be supporting a competitor through their preparation and performance at an international level. This includes mentoring, contributing to training and readiness, collaborating with other experts, and ensuring alignment with global competition standards across a 12-month timeframe.”
Tracy says she is looking forward to experiencing how different countries approach skills training and high-performance competition.
“Professionally, I’m keen to bring those insights back into TAFE Queensland to support educator capability, strengthen industry alignment, and enhance the learning experience for our students,” said Tracy.
