Entry requirements
To enrol in a course at TAFE Queensland, you must meet all entry requirements. These requirements are different for and specific to each course.
Entry requirements across our courses may include:
- English language proficiency levels
- subject prerequisites
- course specific entry requirements
- a portfolio submission or audition prior to entry for many of our creative courses.
While not an entry requirement for the majority of our courses, we do strongly recommend having a minimum previous education level:
- Year 10 / 11 or equivalent for foundation skills and certificate courses
- Year 12 or equivalent for diploma and higher education courses
Make sure you read the entry requirement section on the course information page for your chosen qualification. If you have questions about the entry requirements for your course, please contact us.
Minimum age requirement
At TAFE Queensland we want to see our students succeed. We are an adult learning environment, but we also provide education and training to younger students. If you are under the age of 18, you will be required to meet further entry requirements. To find out more, please contact us.
Please note this excludes TAFE at School students.
English language requirements
For international students wanting to study at TAFE Queensland you must have a minimum English language skill level. If English is not your first language, you must have a minimum International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic score.
This minimum score is dependent on the study level you plan to complete:
- For certificate III, certificate IV, diploma* and advanced diploma courses: overall 5.5 (with no score lower than 5.0)
- For higher education (associate degree and above) courses: overall 6.5 (with no score lower than 6.0)
*Some courses and passport nationalities may require higher IELTS (Academic) scores than the minimum of IELTS 5.5 and/or include specific sub-score requirements. These will be detailed in the important information section of the course information page.
