Course overview

Progress your project management career in the building and construction industry with this advanced course. This course meets the technical requirements for you to apply for your Builder Project Management Services licence.

According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, the number of people working as construction managers grew very strongly over the past five years and is expected to continue to see strong growth. There are likely to be around 54,000 job openings in this area over the next five years. 

In this course you will gain advanced knowledge of building projects to allow you to provide advisory, administrative and management services for the construction of large, high-rise and complex buildings. You will learn to apply structural principles, assess faults, apply building codes and standards, and manage compliance with legal obligations. You may also gain the skills required to administer project contracts and certify timing, quality and cost matters.

Successful completion of this course will open up opportunities as a building project manager. You will be able to apply for your Builder Project Management Services licence and provide services for high-rise and complex building projects.

Selection criteria
  • A Sound Achievement in Year 12 English and Mathematics is highly recommended;
  • You must either supply a copy of your Year 12 Certificate issued by the state certifying body in the state you completed year 12 or undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment by the first course census date.

Resources required

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

You will be provided with a recommended reading list and/or required textbooks during orientation or at the start of each unit. The purchase of these resources may incur additional costs, or you may be able to borrow them from the TAFE Queensland library network.
