Develop your leadership skills with this high-level course. Develop the specialised knowledge and advanced skills required to become a managing director or chief executive officer.

According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, the number of people working as chief executives and managing directors is expected to grow strongly over the coming years. This very large occupation is expected to create around 31,000 job openings over the next five years. 

In this course you will gain specialised knowledge in the planning and implementation of a range of leadership and management functions. You will develop the cognitive and creative skills to review, critically analyse, consolidate, and synthesise ideas and knowledge. Learn how to use communication skills to develop partnerships and influence change as well as how to generate ideas and provide solutions to complex problems. This course will also teach you how to interpret financial and economic information for strategic decision-making purposes.

Successful completion of this course will equip you for leadership and management roles in a variety of industries. This course also provides a strong foundation for further study in this area.

Entry requirements

To enter into this course, you must:

  • have completed a Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualification in related fields of study and 3 years equivalent full-time relevant workplace experience at a significant level of leadership and management responsibility and/or complexity in an enterprise; or
  • have completed a Bachelor degree in related fields of study and 2 years equivalent full-time relevant workplace experience at a significant level of leadership and management responsibility and/or complexity in an enterprise; or
  • have five years equivalent full-time relevant workplace experience at a significant level of leadership and management responsibility and/or complexity in an enterprise.
Resources Required

As a part of the RPL application process, you will be asked to provide some generic documents such as your CV, role description and previous studies or relevant professional development completed.  

Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
