Course overview

Embark on a career in the automotive tyre servicing industry with this entry-level course. You will learn the basic skills and knowledge required to work as a tyre fitter.

According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service there is stable future growth predicted for people working as motor vehicle parts and accessories fitters with around 9,000 job openings expected over the next five years. Queensland has a large share of workers with employers looking for qualified candidates who are reliable, can interact well with others, and are well presented. 

You will learn how to perform a range of routine service tasks and procedures for light and heavy vehicles. You will also develop basic knowledge and practical skills across a range of areas including trye inspection, selection, balance, repair, and more. Our highly experienced team of industry-professionals work in partnership with major automotive companies to ensure you learn current techniques using the latest technology.

Successful completion of this course will provide the entry-level knowledge and skills required to work as a tyre fitter. You will also be prepared for further study.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

To study an apprenticeship or traineeship program you must be indentured as an apprentice or trainee with your employer.

Employers need to be able to provide the necessary human and physical resources to qualify for an apprentice.

Resources required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes. This includes the use of clear safety glasses to AS 1336 or 1337, protective footwear with covered uppers, steel capped toes and non-slip soles to AS2210, mechanic gloves, and ear plugs or muffs. You should also wear 100% cotton drill industry-standard protective clothing. If you fail to meet these minimum standards of dress, you will not be permitted entry into practical classes.

You will be provided with a recommended reading list and/or required textbooks after enrolment, during orientation or at the start of each unit. The purchase of these resources may incur additional costs, or you may be able to borrow them from the TAFE Queensland library network.

You are also required to have access to and bring personal stationery, a USB, and a calculator.

Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
