Course overview

In this course, you will gain a foundational understanding of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. You’ll learn essential tools, create vector graphics, edit and retouch images, design layouts, and integrate all three applications in a final project. By the end, you’ll confidently apply these skills to real-world design tasks.

Topics covered:

Session 1: Introduction to Adobe Creative Suite

  • Overview of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
  • Introduction to each software and their primary uses
  • Setting Up Your Workspace
  • Basic setup and customization of the workspace in each application

Getting Started with Adobe Illustrator

  • Basic Tools and Functions
  • Introduction to essential tools (e.g., Pen Tool, Shape Tools, Selection Tools)
  • Creating Vector Graphics
  • Hands-on exercise: Designing a simple logo or icon
  • Working with Colours and Gradients
  • Applying colours, gradients, and patterns to your designs

Session 2: Exploring Adobe Photoshop

  • Basic Tools and Functions
  • Introduction to essential tools (e.g., Brush Tool, Lasso Tool, Layers)
  • Photo Editing and Retouching
  • Hands-on exercise: Enhancing and retouching a photograph
  • Creating Composites
  • Combining multiple images to create a composite artwork

Session 3: Diving into Adobe InDesign

  • Basic Tools and Functions
  • Introduction to essential tools (e.g., Text Tool, Frame Tool, Pages Panel)
  • Designing Layouts
  • Hands-on exercise: Creating a simple magazine or brochure layout
  • Working with Text and Typography
  • Applying text styles, formatting, and typography principles

Sessions 4-5: Integrating the Three Applications

  • Workflow Integration
  • How to use Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign together in a project
  • Final Project
  • You will create a project that incorporates elements from all three applications
