Course overview

If you want to become more efficient and organised at work using Microsoft Excel, at TAFE Queensland we have the course for you!  Microsoft Office Excel: Intermediate is designed to assist you in improving your expertise and developing your skills further by mastering the tools and features of Excel.

Gold Coast
Microsoft Excel - 6 hours face to face on campus or 7 hours online self-paced. 

In this session, using the Windows 10 platform, you will learn how to:

  • work with rows, columns and worksheets
  • relative, absolute and named references
  • Excel Math
  • 3D formulas
  • use the functions: SUM, AVERAGE, and COUNT
  • formatting

Greater Brisbane
Microsoft Excel - 4 hours. In this session you will learn how to:

  • develop your skills using Excel processes to enter, analyse, share and manage your day-to-day workplace data
  • develop your skills to apply key functions in-built into Excel, including SUM, VLOOKUP, TRIM, IF statements, SUMIF and CONCATENATE
  • develop your skills to work with mass data including Text-to-column, filters and an introduction to Excel's powerful data analytical tool such as pivot tables

This short course is non-accredited therefore is not registered with the National Training Register.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

It is highly recommended that you:

  • know the essentials of Microsoft Excel;
  • have competent computer literacy skills, including an understanding of personal computers and the Windows operating system, especially working with files and folders;
  • be able to confidently use a mouse and keyboard.
Resources Required

Classroom delivery

  • Please bring a pen and paper for note taking, and a USB.
  • You will need to present your Confirmation of Enrolment to the car park attendant each week to be eligible for discounted parking.

Gold Coast Online delivery

  • It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection. 
  • This online course will be facilitated by LinkedIn Learning. A TAFE facilitator will be available during the 30 days of course delivery to answer any questions.
  • You will receive an email from TAFE Queensland with your access details 24 - 48 hours after enrolment.  It will also include the email contact details of your TAFE facilitator.  
  • You will complete this course at your own pace following online videos. Please note that this course does not have downloadable resources to take away with you once completed.
