    This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to safely perform dogging work. Dogging consists of the application of slinging techniques to move a load, including the selection and inspection of lifting gear, and the directing of a plant operator in the movement of a load when the load is out of sight of the operator.

Selection criteria

Entry into this course is available via commercial/corporate arrangements only. There are no scheduled campus dates, as training and assessment is delivered on-site in the workplace.

Assessments can only be undertaken at the age of 18 or over. The Legislation requires the applicant to have a basic knowledge and understanding of the English language. Sound literacy and numeracy skills are recommended.

Resources required

  • access to the relevant equipment
  • correct PPE as per site requirements
  • personal stationery (pens and note book)
  • photo ID (i.e. Queensland or Interstate Driver's Licence or Passport (required on assessment day)

As training is delivered in the workplace, the employer will also need to provide a suitable room for theory training to take place. This can be negotiated with the TAFE trainer/assessor.

Important information

Following the successful completion of assessment, students will be issued with an Assessment Summary (AS1). The High Risk Work (HRW) licence application form and supporting documentation (including the AS1) must be lodged at a participating Australia Post outlet in Queensland for processing. Please note that the application must be lodged within 60 days of successfully completing the practical assessment and that an application fee is payable. Following lodgement, enquiries regarding your application should be directed to WorkSafe Queensland.
