Strengthen your potential for a career in the sports industry with this dual qualification, delivered in partnership with peak sporting organisations and TAFE Queensland.

According to the Australian Government's labour markets insights Service there is strong future growth predicted for this industry with increasing demand for qualified sports coaches, instructors and officials with over 44,000 positions expected by 2026.

In this qualification you'll cover coaching fundamentals including how to plan and deliver coaching programs for high-performing athletes, apply sport psychology principles, and coordinate health and wellness programs. In addition, you'll develop essential sports industry skills including managing risk, leading and managing people, and maintaining workplace health and safety. Taking your skills to the next level, you'll also be mentored in team leadership and management, discover how to utilise emotional intelligence to maximise outcomes, and learn how to develop and implement effective projects and business operational plans.

TAFE Queensland's highly-experienced team of industry leaders will give you the guidance you need to succeed in your studies and beyond. This course also offers unique work-integrated learning opportunities at various industry partners across different departments and elite sporting facilities.

Upon successful completion of this course you'll be able to work across a variety of roles in the sports industry. You'll also be well placed for further study and be considered for potential graduate roles.

This dual diploma combines theory with a range of work-integrated learning opportunities. Through this partnership you will not only have access to elite sport facilities, but you'll also have the opportunity to complete 100 hours of hands-on work experience.

VET Student Loan - 1 x $18,097 and 1 x $12,063 cap

The VET Student Loans program assists eligible students enrolled in approved courses to pay their tuition fees.  The Australian Government charges full fee-paying (non-subsidised) students a 20 per cent loan fee in addition to their tuition fees.  A VET Student Loan is a debt that must be repaid.

Subsidised price eligibility

  • The course cost of the Diploma of Leadership and Management is funded by Fee-Free TAFE funding for those that meet the eligibility requirements.
  • Eligibility for Fee-Free TAFE will be assessed during the application process.
  • There are multiple payment options available for course fees of the Diploma of Sport. 

Resources required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum standard of dress. This includes having access to and wearing appropriate general fitness attire and enclosed shoes. You may be required to purchase TAFE Queensland branded uniform items. The purchase of these uniform items may incur additional costs. More details will be provided after enrolment or during orientation.

You will be provided with a recommended reading list and/or required textbooks during orientation or at the start of each unit. The purchase of these resources may incur additional costs or you may be able to borrow them from the TAFE Queensland library network.

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Additional activities included in this program include:

  • 100 hours of work-based placement within the relevant industry partner’s organisation.
  • Exposure to the relevant industry partners organisation operations, fan engagement, membership operations, community engagement, marketing and media communications, events, clinics and more.
  • Guest presentations from the relevant industry partners organisations staff, coaches, and players
  • Networking opportunities with staff at the relevant industry partner’s organisation.

  • Virtual classes or self-directed time for approximately 6 hours per week. Prep reading and assessment completion for approximately 8 hours per week.

You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
