Course overview

Commence your pathway toward a career at sea with the Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Integrated Rating). This nationally recognised qualification is ideal for individuals currently working in, or aspiring to enter, the maritime industry and seeking to pursue certification through the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) as an Able Seafarer Deck, Able Seafarer Engine or Integrated Rating.

This course provides the training component required by individuals working towards Able Seafarer Deck, Able Seafarer Engine or Integrated Rating Certificates of Proficiency, with certification outcomes subject to AMSA assessment and seaservice requirements.

It also meets the presea training requirements for AMSA certification under Marine Orders 70–74 and the Navigation Act 2012, in alignment with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).

Throughout the program, you’ll develop a broad understanding of the shipping industry, including watchkeeping duties, routine ship and engine maintenance, cargo handling and marine rigging operations, propulsion systems, electrical and auxiliary systems, as well as deck machinery. You will also complete essential safety training, including the Certificate of Safety Training and the Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft other than Fast Rescue Boats.

This course is designed to build your confidence and capability in implementing safe work practices and preparing you for further industry experience. The skills and knowledge gained are relevant to roles across commercial vessels, offshore operations and international shipping environments, with employment in regulated maritime positions requiring separate AMSA certification and seaservice.
