This skill set consists of 2 units:

  • Conduct lifting operations
    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to conduct lifting operations in the resources and infrastructure industries, including developing preliminary lifting plans, directing load movements, connecting load to movement devices and confirming load stability.  It applies to those working in operational roles.  They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions including known routines and procedures and take some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.
     
  • Operate a gantry or overhead crane
    This unit describes a participant's skills and knowledge required to operate a gantry or overhead crane, including planning and preparing and performing operational servicing.  This unit is appropriate for those working in site-based roles.

Entry requirements

Selection criteria

The Legislation requires the applicant to have a basic knowledge and understanding of the English language. Sound literacy and numeracy skills are recommended.

Resources required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements as per site requirements.
All personal protective equipment and stationery is to be supplied at your own cost.
This include the use of:

  • safety glasses
  • protective footwear with safety toe cap and non-slip soles to AS2210
  • high vis vest

You will also require:

  • pen
  • notebook
  • photo ID (i.e. Queensland or Interstate Driver's Licence or Passport (required on assessment day))

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.
