This qualification is built specifically to give you the practical skills to work as a medical administrator or receptionist. You'll be empowered with training in maintaining patient records, preparation and processing of medical accounts, patient record systems, and the interpretation and application of medical terminology.

Successful completion of this course enables you to work in busy medical practices as a medical receptionist or secretary. You'll also gain valuable general business administration skills in line with a wide array of industry standards and practices. This certificate III qualification is an excellent grounding for further study at a diploma level or higher.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

This qualification has no formal entry criteria, however, TAFE Queensland has the following selection criteria for this qualification:

  • Year 10 or equivalent; 
  • If you're under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply

Resources required

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player.

This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.  General materials, including a USB and stationary.

Need to know

When studying online it is strongly recommended students follow the preferred order of study and enrol in no more than two units per intake, unless otherwise advised.
