The Australian Government's Job Outlook service says that demand for multimedia specialists including game developers is rising. The industry is experiencing very strong growth with over 10,000 job openings expected over the next five years.
This course gives you specialised knowledge and skills to work within a collaborative design sector. You will also develop advanced understanding of design concepts and interactive computer game development. TAFE Queensland's industry experienced teaching staff can provide you with real-world skills which can be readily transferred to the competitive digital and interactive games workplace.
Successful completion of this course will give you the necessary skills and attributes to seek employment as an online game developer or animator. Completion also provides great articulation opportunities into higher education courses.
Through our pathways to degree programs you’ll have access to a variety of gaming tech including an opti-track motion capture system, Leap Motion, and Oculus Rift Virtual Reality systems. In our degree space we have a dedicated Alienware lab that showcases past and current technology such as haptic devices, arcade machines, racing simulators, and duel touch screen monitors. Throughout the semester diploma students will have the opportunity to engage within the gaming degree space.
TAFE Queensland's partnership with the University of Canberra means you will be credited for your time with us if you decide to upgrade your qualification. Successful completion of your diploma means you automatically qualify for a provisional place in the Bachelor of Games and Interactive Design with up to one year of credit.

The following Selection criteria requirements apply only to Domestic Students:
It is highly recommended students are competent in computer based programs including the Microsoft Office Suite and a creative flair, eye for detail and an interest in Website design, Game Design and Development and 3D Animation. It is also recommended that students have completed year 12 (or equivalent) or have relevant experience and/or qualifications
International Students
The following Selection criteria requirements apply only to International Students:
Students should be a minimum of 18 years of age. Student visa applicants under the age of 18 will be accepted where they demonstrate that they will be accompanied by a parent, legal custodian or a suitable relative who is aged 21 or over. It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.
You will also require access to personal stationery (notebook, pen, pencil), headphones and an external hard drive (500 GB minimum), which may also incur additional costs.
Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
