According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, the number of people working as roof tilers grew very strongly over the past five years with stable growth predicted for the future. There are likely to be around 4,000 job openings expected in this industry over the next five years.
In this course you will learn how to install tiles on a range of roofs using concrete and terracotta tiles, stone slates, and wooden shingles. Gain skills in installing barge tiles, securing roofing underlays, and fixing ridge caps and gable ends with cement mortar. You will also learn how to work safely on roofs, repair and replace valleys and valley irons, and use tools to cut materials to fit around vents and chimney edges. Your training will also cover core units in measurement and calculations, interpreting plans, working with scaffolding, and OHS.
Successful completion of this course will give you the practical skills required to work as a roof tiler. If completed as part of an apprenticeship it will also allow you to apply for a trade qualification in roof tiling for the residential and commercial construction industries.
