According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, cabinet making is a skill in demand with the industry currently experiencing a shortage of qualified workers. With a practical qualification from TAFE Queensland, your skills will be in high demand with future employers.
In this course you will gain broad-based underpinning skills and knowledge to complete a range of furniture making tasks. You will learn to select and use appropriate tools, equipment and materials to produce simple pieces of furniture or furnishing components and prepare for cabinet installation. Our industry-expert teachers will support you to develop the foundation skills employers are looking for.
Successful completion of this course will put you in the best position to gain a cabinet making apprenticeship or allow you to seek employment as a trades assistant or product assembler.

If you have difficulty paying for the full cost of a course upfront, you may be eligible for a payment plan.
You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes. This includes the use of safety glasses, protective footwear with covered uppers, steel capped toes and non-slip soles to AS2210, long leather gloves to AS2161, hair protection, and disposable dust masks. You should also wear 100% cotton drill industry-standard clothing. If you fail to meet these minimum standards of dress, you will not be permitted entry into practical classes.
You will be provided with a recommended reading list and/or required textbooks during orientation or at the start of each unit. The purchase of these resources may incur additional costs, or you may be able to borrow them from the TAFE Queensland library network.
You are also required to have access to and bring personal stationary, a USB, a calculator, and tools/equipment including a folding metre ruler (carpenter) and a 5m tape measure.
Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
