Get qualified for less, or even for free, and get the in-demand skills you need to make a fresh start with your career. Over 70 qualifications and skill sets are eligible for JobTrainer funding across a range of study areas. JobTrainer is part of the government’s economic response to COVID-19, designed to support young people and job seekers gain new skills to help Queensland recover from the pandemic. The program targets growing industries and areas that have been hit hardest by the pandemic, preparing new workers and job seekers to fill existing skills needs.

If you’re a school leaver, young person, or job seeker you could be eligible to receive JobTrainer funding towards your course. JobTrainer funded courses are proudly delivered by TAFE Queensland and jointly funded by the Australian Government and Queensland Government.

Free TAFE for under 25s

To support school leavers into work, the Queensland Government is offering free TAFE training in high-priority areas. These qualifications have been selected based on skills demand and advice from industry, ensuring students develop the skills needed by employers and the Queensland economy. There are dozens of qualifications to choose from across a range of study areas including child care, community services, health, hospitality, agriculture, and horticulture. Plus, you can choose the study mode that suits you with many qualifications delivered both on campus and online.

To be eligible for this funding you must be under 25, not be at school, permanently reside in Queensland, be an Australian or New Zealand citizen (or temporary resident with necessary visa and work permits), and not hold or be enrolled in a certificate III or higher-level qualification (not including qualifications completed at school).

Free apprenticeships for under 25s

The Queensland Government is supporting young Queenslanders by providing access to fully-subsidised training across a range of apprenticeship and traineeship qualifications.

A range of certificate-level courses are available in high-priority areas including aged care, automotive, building and construction, child care, electro technology, engineering, cookery, hairdressing, and horticulture.

To be eligible you must be under the age of 25 and be enrolled in an eligible high-priority apprenticeship or traineeship qualification.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

This funding helps support eligible students to complete their first post-school certificate III level qualification. The Queensland Government pays the subsidy directly to TAFE Queensland for a range of eligible certificate III courses. The level of the government subsidy varies depending on the demand for skilled workers in each industry. You will be required to contribute to the costs of your training through a co-contribution fee.

To be eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee you must be 15 years or older, have completed or left secondary school, be an Australian citizen or permanent resident residing in Queensland (or New Zealand citizen permanently residing in Queensland), and NOT hold or be currently enrolled in a certificate III or higher level qualification.

Free micro-credentials

Micro-credentials provide a fast and affordable way to keep your skills up to date. These courses are designed for individuals who are looking to gain a new skill and add to their resume, or for those who are looking for a career change or restart. TAFE Queensland is offering a range of these short, online courses to individuals affected by COVID-19. Turn uncertainty into opportunity and build on your existing skills, boost your resume, or retrain in a new area without having to commit to a full qualification.

Whatever your circumstances, taking advantage of funded and subsidised training is a great way to invest in yourself and your future career.
