Job-ready for a future in advanced manufacturing
There has never been a better time for Queenslanders working in the manufacturing industry to upskill themselves as employers look for new ways to incorporate automation, robotics and artificial intelligence into their business.
According to the Queensland Government, the manufacturing industry is worth $20 billion per year to the Queensland economy, and is currently the third-largest employer of full-time workers, with expected growth to 178,000 by 2024-25.
Advanced manufacturing refers to the use of innovative and cutting-edge technologies, techniques and processes to improve efficiency, quality and sustainability, with the end goal of creating faster, cheaper and more reliable products.
TAFE Queensland Chief Executive Officer John Tucker said there had never been a better time for Queenslanders to get job-ready for a future in advanced manufacturing.
“With the right training and support, Queensland can be at the forefront of the revolution already underway in the manufacturing sector,” Mr Tucker said.
“From entry-level certificates and apprenticeships to advanced diplomas, TAFE Queensland offers over 40 advanced manufacturing-related courses and qualifications with enrolments continuing to increase annually as both the industry grows and future jobs emerge.”
“In fact, each financial year since 2020-2021 more than 9,000 students across the state have enrolled in courses related to Australia's booming advanced manufacturing sector,” he said.
TAFE Queensland is committed to training excellence and enabling Queenslanders to do extraordinary things.
Employers can choose from a range of flexible and tailored training solutions including on site, in the workplace, online or on campus to give apprentices the skills they need to build exciting and successful careers.
Mr Tucker said for over 140 years, TAFE Queensland has evolved with Queensland’s economy and local communities to deliver the people, knowledge and expertise needed in industry and the future ahead is no different.
“As part of the Queensland Government’s recently announced VET Emerging Industries Fund, TAFE Queensland is developing and delivering new training for priority industries to ensure Queenslanders are ready for the jobs of the future. This work will span a number of industry sectors including manufacturing, agribusiness, energy/renewables, and screen and digital,” Mr Tucker said.
“TAFE Queensland is committed to providing Queenslanders with the high quality, hands-on training they need to succeed in their chosen career, while fulfilling the skills demands of the community.
“Advanced manufacturing has the potential to revolutionise the manufacturing industry and we are doing everything we can to ensure Queenslanders are ready,” he said.
