Anna-Liza Mopio-Jane champions the next generation of elite athletes
Anna-Liza Mopio-Jane has joined TAFE Queensland's Academy of Sport, bringing world-class experience and deep athlete development expertise to her new role as Senior Athlete Pathways Coordinator.
A professional swimmer who represented Papua New Guinea at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, three Commonwealth Games and five World Championships, she understands what it takes to perform under pressure - and how to support aspiring athletes to reach their potential.
In her role at TAFE Queensland, she will lead initiatives designed to attract elite and emerging athletes to study with the Academy of Sport, while providing tailored support throughout their educational journey.
Anna-Liza will also manage critical partnerships with the Australian Institute of Sport, Queensland Academy of Sport and other major sporting organisations to strengthen pathways into high-performance sport.
“Supporting athletes to pursue both their sporting and education goals has always been a passion of mine,” Anna-Liza said.
“TAFE Queensland offers the perfect platform to help student-athletes thrive academically, personally, and athletically.”
A recent inductee into the Papua New Guinea Sporting Hall of Fame, Anna-Liza has built a respected career since retiring from professional swimming.
Her experience spans athlete wellbeing, community engagement, mentoring, and education pathways.
She holds formal qualifications in counselling, has led a range of development programs, and recently worked as an athlete manager, providing her with extensive experience in recruiting, supporting, and guiding high-performing student-athletes.
Her expertise will be key as TAFE Queensland expands initiatives such as the Elite Athlete Merit Scholarships, the Dream Twice partnership, and the launch of new qualifications, including the Certificate IV in Athlete Wellbeing Management (11096NAT) and Certificate III in Sport – Athlete (SIS30521).
Anna-Liza will also contribute to TAFE Queensland’s Olympic and Paralympic Games Committee as the state builds towards the 2032 Games in Brisbane.
She is also set to represent TAFE Queensland at upcoming events, including the ParaTough Cup and Harvey Norman Corporate Challenge.
“I’m excited to be part of the TAFE Queensland team and to bring my experience to enhance the student-athlete experience further,” she said.
“I look forward to contributing to an environment where our student-athletes can thrive both academically and in their sporting pursuits.”
With her global sporting pedigree and passion for empowering young people, Anna-Liza Mopio-Jane will play a pivotal role in strengthening the Academy of Sport’s programs, partnerships, and pathways - as Queensland prepares for a decade of unprecedented sporting opportunity.
