Football Queensland launches FQ Institute of Business and Sport in partnership with TAFE Queensland
Football Queensland (FQ) is proud to announce the launch of the Football Queensland Institute of Business and Sport, created to deliver industry-leading education and career pathways for the state’s sporting community.
As part of the launch, FQ has also confirmed the renewal of its valued partnership with TAFE Queensland. Queensland’s largest and most experienced training provider, TAFE Queensland established its Academy of Sport in 2023 in response to the announcement of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and now delivers sports-industry specific training in collaboration with many of the state’s leading sporting organisations.
Offering qualifications in sport coaching, event management, or leadership, the new Football Queensland Institute of Business and Sport, will provide valuable real-world opportunities for students passionate about pursuing a career in football.
“We are delighted to launch the Football Queensland Institute of Business and Sport and to extend our valued partnership with TAFE Queensland,” Football Queensland CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“This initiative will provide students with outstanding real-world learning opportunities, immersing them in the day-to-day operations of football in Queensland and connecting them directly with leading industry experts, coaches and administrators.
“Having already achieved great success with the FQ TAFE at School and FQ Diploma programs, we are excited to build on that momentum through this new venture.
By integrating nationally recognised qualifications with hands-on, work-integrated learning, we are equipping the next generation of sports professionals with the skills and experience they need to succeed.
“Football Queensland is committed to providing meaningful educational pathways for our football community, and we are proud that this initiative will further strengthen those opportunities.”
TAFE Queensland Academy of Sport Manager, Don Harley, also welcomed the establishment of the Institute.
“Sport offers a unique opportunity to turn your passion into a career, and education is at the heart of making that possible,” Mr Harley said.
“We are excited to work with Football Queensland to deliver a program that combines formal study with genuine industry immersion, creating pathways for students to thrive in sport and beyond.”
The Football Queensland Institute of Business and Sport will offer three nationally recognised diploma programs: the Diploma of Sport (SIS50321), Diploma of Event Management (SIT50322) and Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420).
These programs will be delivered under TAFE Queensland’s first-of-its-kind sports diploma hub, where students will study alongside peers from other leading Queensland sporting organisations, creating a truly unique and diverse education experience.
Participants in these courses will study two days per week at TAFE Queensland’s South Bank campus, complemented by field trips to leading sporting organisations, including Football Queensland.
Students will also benefit from presentations by industry expert guest speakers and gain up to 70 hours of practical work experience within the broader FQ organisation.
“With the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games on the horizon, there is an urgent need for people skilled in coaching, event management and leadership,” Mr Harley said.
“Our sporting association partners like Football Queensland will play a vital role in delivering Games-related outcomes, while also being some of the key employers in the lead-up to 2032 and well beyond. That’s why this partnership and education offering is not only welcome - it’s essential.”
