Launching the Eels Institute: TAFE Queensland Partners with Parramatta Eels to create new pathways in sport and business
TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275) is proud to announce its newest National Rugby League partner with the Parramatta Eels, set to launch the Eels Institute – an exciting new educational initiative providing students with a unique opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications while learning inside one of Australia’s premier sporting environments.
The program offers two dynamic Dual Diploma study options:
- Diploma of Sport (SIS50321) and Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420)
- Diploma of Sport (SIS50321) and Diploma of Project Management (BSB50820)
Delivered through TAFE Queensland’s Academy of Sport, the Eels Institute combines classroom learning with immersive, real-world experience at the Parramatta Eels’ James Hardie Centre of Excellence and Kellyville Memorial Park Community Centre.
Throughout their studies, students will complete up to 100 hours of work experience, rotating through various departments within the Club. These practical experiences will develop skills in team leadership, communication, event operations, and strategic planning — providing a powerful springboard into careers across sport, business, and community sectors.
The move cements the Eels commitment to the wider community, and nurturing future talent off the field as well as on. Eels CEO, Jim Sarantinos, expressed the Club’s excitement over this new educational offering.
“We’re incredibly proud to launch the Eels Institute. This initiative offers passionate students a unique opportunity to advance their education in a world-class high-performance environment, while gaining hands-on experience within a professional sports organisation.
At the Parramatta Eels, we’re deeply committed to uplifting our community and investing in future talent. The Eels Institute extends that commitment beyond the playing field, creating pathways for students to grow, learn, and build meaningful careers in sport and business. We’re excited to support the next generation as they take their first steps into the industry.”
TAFE Queensland’s Academy of Sport Manager, Don Harley, said the partnership highlights the growing national footprint of TAFE Queensland’s sport education programs.
“We’re thrilled to partner with the Parramatta Eels to deliver the education for the Eels Institute. The sporting world is such an exciting place to work, and programs like this open the door for more people to find their way into the industry. The new Kellyville facilities are among the best in Australia, and they’ll provide the perfect environment for students to learn and grow.”
The Eels Institute is a reflection of both organisations’ shared commitment to supporting education, workforce development, and community opportunity. Up to two outstanding graduates from each intake may also be offered full-time employment with the Parramatta Eels following successful completion of the course.
Graduates will gain dual qualifications that can lead directly into the workforce or provide a pathway to higher education through TAFE Queensland’s partner universities. No ATAR is required to apply, making the program accessible to motivated individuals passionate about sport and leadership.
