Brisbane Bullets join TAFE Queensland’s Sports Diploma Hub ahead of July intake
TAFE Queensland is proud to announce that the Brisbane Bullets have officially joined the Academy of Sport’s growing Sports Diploma Hub, further strengthening one of Australia’s most unique sport education models.
The Brisbane Bullets will join a collective of high-profile sporting organisations participating in the Hub model, which gives students the opportunity to study towards their choice of either the TAFE Queensland Diploma of Sport (SIS50321) or Diploma of Event Management (SIT50322) over 12 months, whilst gaining direct exposure to the inner workings of professional sport.
With the next cohorts commencing in July, the Sports Diploma Hub is designed to provide students with broad industry exposure across multiple sporting organisations through a series of regular field trips, guest speakers, practical learning experiences and industry engagement opportunities.
Unlike traditional single-club education programs, the Hub model allows students to experience a range of sporting environments across Queensland’s professional sporting landscape, helping them build diverse industry networks and explore career pathways in sport, events, operations, fan engagement and high performance.
Students enrolled in the program will participate in regular visits to partner organisations throughout the year, providing behind-the-scenes insights into the operations of elite sporting clubs and venues while completing nationally recognised qualifications.
Manager of Academy of Sport Partnerships at TAFE Queensland, Don Harley, said the addition of the Brisbane Bullets further strengthens the Academy of Sport’s commitment to creating industry-connected education experiences.
“The Brisbane Bullets are an iconic Queensland sporting brand with a rich history and a strong connection to the community,” Harley said.
“The Sports Diploma Hub is all about giving students exposure to different sporting environments and helping them build genuine industry connections whilst studying. The addition of the Bullets adds another outstanding professional organisation to that ecosystem.”
Harley said the model continued to evolve in response to student demand for flexibility, industry access and practical learning experiences.
“We know students are looking for more than just a qualification. They want connection to industry, hands-on experiences and exposure to potential career pathways. The Hub model has been built specifically around that.”
General Manager – Consumer at the Brisbane Bullets, Kate Harris, said the club was excited to partner with TAFE Queensland and support the next generation of sport industry professionals.
“At the Brisbane Bullets, we’re passionate about creating meaningful connections within the community and helping grow the future of the sports industry,” Harris said.
“This partnership provides students with the opportunity to gain real-world insight into professional sport and experience the different career opportunities that exist behind the scenes of an elite sporting organisation.”
Harris said the partnership aligned strongly with the club’s commitment to community engagement and youth development.
“We’re excited to welcome students into the Bullets environment and showcase the many different facets that contribute to running a professional sporting club.”
The Brisbane Bullets are one of the National Basketball League’s foundation clubs and have a proud history within Australian sport since their establishment in 1979.
Applications for the July intake of the Sports Diploma Hub are now open. Students can choose between the Diploma of Sport and Diploma of Event Management, with both programs delivered through TAFE Queensland’s Academy of Sport.
