According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, demand for advertising and marketing professionals grew very strongly over the past five years and is expected to continue to grow in the future. This very large occupation is likely to create around 53,000 job openings over the next five years. 

This course will equip you with specialised knowledge in customer research, web design, and digital marketing and communications. You'll gain practical experience developing promotional programs and small business marketing plans. In addition, you will learn how to pitch advertising concepts, identify and exploit market opportunities, and understand consumer behaviour.

Entry requirements

Entry to this qualification is limited to those who: 

Have completed the following units (or equivalent competencies) or BSBSS00107 Marketing and Communication Foundations Skill Set

  • BSBCMM411 Make presentations; 
  • BSBCRT412 Articulate, present and debate ideas;  
  • BSBMKG433 Undertake marketing activities;  
  • BSBMKG435 Analyse consumer behaviour;  
  • BSBMKG439 Develop and apply knowledge of communications industry; and  
  • BSBWRT411 Write complex documents.  

Equivalent competencies are predecessors to these units, which have been mapped as equivalent.

Have two years equivalent full-time relevant work experience.

Selection criteria

Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB)
All students are required to complete the Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) to identify any learning support needs and meet any regulatory and/or funding requirements. Read more about completing your BKSB with TAFE Queensland  here.

It is recommended that learners have an understanding of basic business and technology concepts, which may have been acquired through previous training programs, qualifications and/or work experience.

Students are required to access and use technology to complete the learning and assessment activities and resources within this program. This can be through their own device and internet connection, or through TAFE campus locations closest to your home location.

Resources required

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system "Connect", and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and  Adobe Acrobat Reader. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Assessment methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course.
