Course overview

If you're working in any situation that requires you to perform work not on a solid platform you will need this safety certificate. This includes but is not limited to; electricians, carpenters, bricklayers and other construction workers as well as sound technicians in the music industry, storemen in warehouses and people entering the mining industry. This program will teach you everything you need to know to comply with current occupational health and safety legislation and work confidently at heights.

    This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work safely at heights in the resources and infrastructure industries. It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take responsibility for the quality of work outcomes. Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories and industry sectors. There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

Please be aware that you will also be required to supply the following items at your cost:

  • Hi-Vis vest

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Need to know

Please note CPCCOHS2001A Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry is a pre-requisite for students wishing to undertake CPCCCM2010B Work safely at heights. RIIWHS204D Work safely at heights does not have a pre-requisite.

Participants with previous machinery experience will be given a challenge test and may complete in a shorter time for training delivered at the Townsville Trade Training Centre. Other site available by negotiation. Workshops are run on demand and require a minimum number of participants. Workshops can be tailored to suit industry groups.

Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) funding is available for this course for eligible students. You must be an existing worker in the Building and Construction Industry with at least one month of employment with your employer to be eligible for CSQ funding. This can be full-time, part-time or casual/contract employment. A letter from your employer must be provided for proof.
