This course provides foundation knowledge in software, hardware and supporting frameworks required for autonomous environments including innovative thinking, networking and programming. You'll learn to understand the programming language Python and use some of the coding, programming and simulator technologies from MicroMelon Robotics.

Successful completion of this course will prepare you to enter and work within the fields of autonomous environments or continue with further study in this area.

Entry requirements

Entry is not restricted by formal educational requirements. However, to achieve competency, you should demonstrate life experience, literacy and numeracy skills and/or other qualifications that are indicative of success in the course.

Selection criteria

Year 10 and Year 11 entry only. Year 11 students must be in Semester 1 of study.

Gold Coast Region

Resources required

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

TAFE Queensland Online students must have access to a Windows 10 or 11 computer. Some tasks cannot be done on a Mac M1 computer.

You will also require access to personal stationery and a USB or external hard drive (minimum 1TB).

Important information

You must attend on-campus 1 day per week. The course will run over 18 months (3 semesters).

Assessment methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
