Course overview

In just 4 hours, you will gain the confidence and skills to create, maintain, and use your very own sourdough starter, along with a comprehensive understanding of the entire sourdough baking process.

This course doesn’t just focus on the starter - it offers a wide overview of the sourdough journey from mixing to baking. You will leave with a well-rounded foundation that empowers you to bake sourdough bread confidently at home.

What you will learn:

  1. The Science of Sourdough: Understand what a sourdough starter is and why it works.
  2. Starter Creation: Step-by-step guidance on creating a strong and active sourdough starter from scratch during the class, using the best organic flour and a perfect glass jar provided.
  3. Feeding and Maintenance: Learn how to properly feed, store, and maintain the starter to keep it thriving.
  4. General Sourdough Process Overview: A complete walkthrough of the main steps in sourdough baking—from mixing and fermentation to shaping and baking.
  5. Troubleshooting: Tips to troubleshoot common issues like weak starters, bad odours, or unexpected results.

What to expect:

  • You will make your own sourdough starter in class and take home a jar of their initiated starter.
  • Guidance will be provided on how to continue nurturing their starter at home, resulting in a strong, active starter ready for baking within 8 to 14 days after the class.
  • There is also an opportunity to take home a 2-day ready dehydrated sourdough starter for a quicker start.
  • This course is a combination of theory – listening & taking notes, and hands on creation.

Additional Benefits:

  • A detailed recipe guide for maintaining and using your starter.
  • Access to continuous support.

You will finish the course with:

  • A jar of active sourdough starter (created in class).
  • Option to take a dehydrated sourdough starter (2-day ready).
  • Printed workshop notes, including feeding schedules, recipes, and general baking guidance.
  • Lifetime access to support from a sourdough community.
