Course overview

Kick start your career with this entry-level course. Develop the skills and knowledge to become a Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) drafting/technical assistant or operator. Being part of the manufacturing, design and engineering industries offers the opportunity to be involved in a range of projects driven by technology and design.

You will learn how to create and modify CAD drawings in 2D and 3D formats. You will also develop the skills and knowledge required to interpret technical drawings, participate in environmentally sustainable work practices, and more. Our supportive, industry experienced teachers will give you all the support you need to succeed.

Successful completion of this course will allow you to work as a CAD drafting/technical assistant or operator. It also gives you a solid foundation for further study in the industry.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

A sound achievement in Year 10 English and Maths or equivalent is recommended.

Resources required

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Need to know

Year 12 graduates start trade training fee free, here’s how.

To be eligible to access fee-free training, you must:

  • have completed Year 12 in Queensland and hold a Senior Statement issued by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority or equivalent certificate that confirms you have completed Year 12 in Queensland
  • enrol and start training with an approved training provider by the end of the calendar year following the completion of Year 12
  • live permanently in Queensland.
