If you're on a campus with WiFi, you will connect to the TAFE_OPEN wireless network.

  1. Make sure that WiFi is available on your device and is switched on. If unsure refer to your device's manufacturer instructions for more detail.
  2. Open an internet browser. You will then be prompted to enter your login details for TAFE_OPEN.
  3. Enter your login details. Your username is studentnumber@student.tafe (e.g. 123456789@student.tafe). Your password is your network password.

If you experience any issues connecting to or using WiFi, talk to a local staff member or contact us.

To help protect our network, our system will automatically check your device doesn't have any issues. We're looking for:

  • the Windows update status on a Windows device
  • a working firewall (these are usually already in your operating system)
  • an up-to-date virus scanner

If you don't have the latest Windows or virus software updates, you'll still get internet access to download these. But you must install a virus scanner before you can login to the network.

For non-Windows devices it's very similar but your access may be restricted. You may get internet access, but not to the education network.

For courses delivered through Connect, it will give you access to your study resources, the ability to submit assessments and communicate with teachers and classmates, the flexibility to study anywhere, any time, and more. Your Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) will tell you if your course is delivered through Connect. Your account information will be included in this documentation and/or emailed to you.

You will need your username (student number) and password to log in.

You can change your password when you are logged in.

If you have forgotten or need to reset your password, use the TAFE Password Manager.

Can't log into Connect

Wrong website

Confirm you are accessing https://connect.tafeqld.edu.au/d2l/login

Wrong login credentials

Check you are using the correct username (your student number) and the password that was emailed to you upon enrolment (or updated since).

Forgotten or expired password

Reset your password via the TAFE Password Manager.

Email not correct

Passwords are sent to your email. If your email is incorrect in our systems, this will prevent password reset from working via the TAFE Password Manager. Check that the email you provided TAFE Queensland is correct and that the reset email isn’t in your junk folder. To update your email contact us or log in to Student self service.

Can't find or access course or specific units

Not enrolled

Check that you are enrolled. If you are not enrolled, contact us to enrol. If you are enrolled and cannot access Connect, contact us. Please note that units/courses will not be available until the official Start of Study date (SOS).

Enrolled prior to Start of Study (SOS)

If you enrolled prior to your course commencement date, you will not be able to access your units until your Start of Study date (SOS). Additionally, you will not be able to access your units to make any amendments once the Close of Study date (COS) has passed. If your course/intake has commenced and you are unable to view your units, please contact us.

Teacher has not made it available

Confirm with your teacher if they are using Connect for your class (as not all classes have an online component). Please note that units/courses will not be available until the official Start of Study date (SOS).
