Made in Queensland: The story behind TAFE Queensland's Make Your Great Happen campaign
More Queenslanders are choosing non-traditional career paths, retraining later in life and building entirely new futures through Vocational Education and Training (VET), and TAFE Queensland's new statewide campaign, Make Your Great Happen, is shining a spotlight on the people behind that shift.
Featuring more than 120 real TAFE Queensland staff and students across 11 priority study areas, Make Your Great Happen shares the stories of Queenslanders gaining new skills, pursuing different opportunities and building meaningful careers.
From school leavers taking their first step into employment to those retraining, changing industries or building on existing skills, Queenslanders are increasingly choosing diverse pathways into work and lifelong learning.
Produced in partnership with Queensland creatives Cristian & Marianne Pty Ltd, and Queensland production company Compadre, and featuring music from acclaimed Queensland band Ball Park Music, the campaign celebrates authentic Queensland stories and the role practical skills play in helping people adapt, grow and pursue new opportunities.
Marianne O’Brien, Director of Cristian & Marianne Pty Ltd, said at its core, Make Your Great Happen is a commitment to authentic Queensland storytelling.
“Featuring real TAFE Queensland staff and students sharing their own study and career choices, the campaign showcases genuine stories, practical skills and career pathways across the state,” said Ms O’Brien.
Working alongside TAFE Queensland, Compadre Picture Co helped conceive and develop the campaign, translating the organisation's refreshed brand strategy into something capable of connecting with audiences at every stage of their learning journey.
"This wasn't designed as a campaign. It was designed as a platform. The ambition was to create a flexible creative system that could support TAFE Queensland's brand, prospective student communications and future growth strategy for years to come,” Ms O’Brien continued.
"People's careers are no longer linear. We wanted to create a platform that reflected that reality through real people and real stories. Featuring staff and students ensured the work reflected real experiences and real outcomes,” she said.
The campaign showcases a broad cross-section of study areas, reflecting the diversity of careers, industries and opportunities supported by TAFE Queensland.
TAFE Queensland Chief Executive Officer Tim Rawlings said the stories featured in the campaign reflect what the organisation sees every day across Queensland.
"At its heart, Make Your Great Happen is about recognising that every Queenslander has their own definition of success and their own journey to get there," Mr Rawlings said.
"Whether it's a school leaver taking the first step towards a career, a parent returning to study, an apprentice learning a trade or someone changing direction entirely, practical skills create confidence, opportunity and momentum."
“Learning doesn't stop when school ends. Every day we see Queenslanders returning to education to pursue new opportunities, build new skills and create the future they want."
“I'm particularly proud that this campaign features our own staff and students as their stories show the real impact education can have on people's lives," he said.
One of those stories belongs to nursing student Irish Tse, who is excited to explore the opportunities that have opened up for her since studying at TAFE Queensland, some that she never thought possible.
"I have actually completed my Diploma of Nursing and now I'm progressing to complete my Bachelor of Nursing, which I never dreamed that I could actually get a degree," said Irish.
"There's so many specialty areas in nursing... I want to try everything."
While she's looking forward to the many career pathways ahead, Irish says the opportunity to pursue her dreams has also had a meaningful impact on the people closest to her.
"My proudest moment though is that I can make my parents happy, and help my community in any way that I can," she continued.
"I always come back to TAFE Queensland, because TAFE feels like home."

Irish reflects the growing number of Queenslanders using education and training to build new opportunities, change industries or advance their careers.
TAFE Queensland Director of Brand, Marketing and Customer Demand, Marielle Wallin, said the campaign reflects the organisation's commitment to putting real people at the centre of its storytelling.
"Our brand is built on real people, practical skills and genuine outcomes. Featuring our own staff and students ensures the campaign authentically represents the communities we serve and the opportunities we help create every day," Ms Wallin said.
"The stories featured in the campaign demonstrate that there is no single pathway to success. They highlight the many ways Queenslanders are building careers, adapting to change and creating meaningful futures through education and training."
With real staff and students at its centre, Make Your Great Happen marks a new chapter for TAFE Queensland, celebrating Queensland stories, practical skills and the transformative power of education.
