Start your career in tourism with this entry-level course. This course will qualify you to work across a number of strong-growth industries such as tourism, business and events.

You will gain the knowledge to undertake routine tasks in using business technology, providing advice on Australian tourism destinations, providing visitor information, and understanding cultural sensitivity. Successful completion of this course will qualify you to become a receptionist in a travel agency, a museum attendant, or office assistant for a tour operator. It will also give you the foundation knowledge to undertake further studies in either tourism, events, or business.

Selection criteria

This is a TAFE at School course. The entry requirements for this qualification are: students must be enrolled at high school please contact your School VET Coordinators or School Guidance Counsellor or Careers Officer for further information. When your SET Plan is complete and you have been accepted into the course, an enrolment pack will be sent offering you a place.

Resources required

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

You will be provided with a recommended reading list and/or required textbooks during orientation or at the start of each unit. The purchase of these resources may incur additional costs, or you may be able to borrow them from the TAFE Queensland library network.

You may also be required to purchase uniform items (including TAFE Queensland branded items, standard black clothing, and enclosed shoes). These details will also be provided during orientation.
