2025 SoLT conference theme: Empowering education through confidence and change

The purpose of the 2025 SoLT conference is to enable vocational and higher education educators, professional staff, and students a platform to showcase, share and reflect on their scholarship.
Contributions are encouraged from educators and researchers from throughout the vocational and higher education sectors. Submitting authors are asked to identify which track their work best relates to, during the submission process. A description for each of the tracks is provided as follows.

Conference tracks
Track 1: Embracing teaching and learning innovations.
This track seeks to showcase current and future innovative trends in teaching and learning across tertiary education. At the sector level, potential topics include the strengthening of vocational and higher education engagement, sustainable funding models and the changing nature of work that educational institutions need to accomodate. At the institutional level, potential topics may include increasing accreditation and quality assurance demands and ensuring equitable access to tertiary education. At the educator level, topics may include ensuring course designs are aligned with community jobs and skills needs, specific teaching and learning innovations and/or student perspectives on teaching innovations.
Track 2: Empowering tertiary education harmonisation.
This track explores strategies to align and harmonise tertiary education systems across geographies and institutions, fostering global collaboration, inclusivity and innovation. Topics include standardising qualifications, advancing credit transfer frameworks and leveraging digital solutions for equitable access to promote lifelong learning pathways.
Track 3: Embracing educational justice, integrity and inclusivity.
This track considers the role of vocational and higher education in breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds to improve their social and economic status. Submissions may explore strategies, policies and practices that promote educational equity and access.
Track 4: Empowering partnerships and community engagement .
This track focuses on how vocational and higher educational institutions and programs can contribute to community development, social cohesion and local sustainability. Papers may explore the process of establishing partnerships and/or facilitating cross-institutional and cross-sector pathways. Industry collaboration studies with regards to for example, trade apprenticeships and/or high-level apprenticeships are also welcome.
Track 5: Embracing scholarship and research initiatives
This track examines the transformative role of scholarship and research in driving innovation and advancing knowledge to enhance learning. Submissions may explore research strategies for fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and integrating research into teaching practices. The track also focuses on how academics, researchers and thought leaders can share insights and best practices to empower individuals and institutions to excel in scholarship and engage with research for the purpose of community benefit.
Track 6: Empowering quality assurance
This track highlights the critical role of quality assurance in strengthening the integrity and impact of educational systems. Papers may focus on innovative approaches to accreditation, assessment, and continuous improvement, ensuring institutions meet established standards while addressing local needs. Topics may also include strategies to build robust quality frameworks, foster accountability and highlight solutions that empower institutions to deliver quality education.
Submission format options
Choose from three (3) submission options:
1. Abstract
- Max 500 words (not including references); APA referencing required
- Ensure chosen topic is aligned with conference theme
- Identify which conference track is preferred
- Abstract submission may provide a synopsis of completed or in-progress scholarship/research projects
Accepted abstract submissions will require:
- Author(s) to provide 15-minute presentation plus a 5-minute Q&A
- Authors of accepted abstracts will have until Friday, August 1, 2025 to revise prior to publication in the 2025 SoLT Book of Proceedings
- Authors of accepted abstract submissions will also have the opportunity to opt out for publication in the 2025 SoLT Book of Proceedings
2. Paper
- Max 3,500 words (not including references); APA referencing required
- Ensure chosen topic is aligned with conference theme
- Identify which conference track is preferred
- Paper submissions may feature the following:
- Significant theoretical reviews;
- Reports on medium to large scale research, evaluations, developments or projects;
- Empirical studies in areas of innovative vocational and higher educational practice;
- Case studies of innovative educational initiatives, pilot projects or institutional strategies
Accepted paper submissions will require:
- Author(s) to provide 15-minute presentation plus a 5-minute Q&A
- Authors of accepted paper submissions will have until Friday, August 1, 2025, to revise prior to publication in the 2025 SoLT Book of Proceedings
- Authors of paper submissions considered as early development will be given the option to present a poster rather than a paper
