AFE Queensland offers a range of courses designed to help you turn your passion for sport into a career. Delivered in partnership with leading sporting organisations and clubs across Queensland, these courses give students the chance to develop practical skills, gain industry knowledge, and experience the realities of working in the sports industry.
Most training takes place on-site with TAFE Queensland’s Academy of Sport partners, giving you access to specialised facilities, industry experts, and a blend of classroom learning and hands-on practice.
With training embedded in real-world industry settings, you’ll experience what it’s like to work in a professional sporting environment while building the skills, confidence, and connections needed to succeed. Courses are currently offered in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Ipswich, and Logan.
Diplomas
The Academy of Sport’s single diploma programs are delivered through Queensland’s first dedicated Sports Diploma Hub, based at TAFE Queensland’s South Bank campus. Students can choose to study a Diploma of Sport (SIS50321), Diploma of Event Management (SIT50322), or Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420), with learning enriched by regular field trips to leading sporting organisations such as Football Queensland, Queensland Rugby Union, Gymnastics Queensland, Hockey Queensland, Tennis Queensland and more.
Alongside classroom learning, students gain a genuine taste of the industry with up to 70 hours of structured work experience at their chosen sporting partner. Guest lectures from industry leaders further provide valuable insight, connections, and real-world expertise to help graduates hit the ground running in their careers.
Dual Diplomas
The Diploma of Leadership and Management / Diploma of Sport (BSB50420/SIS50321), taught together over 12 months, are delivered in partnership with the Brisbane Broncos, Brisbane Bullets, Brisbane Lions, Gold Coast SUNS, Manly Sea Eagles, and Queensland Cricket.
Taught on the site of our sporting industry partners, students can complete up to 100 hours of work-integrated learning, giving you the chance to apply your studies in real sporting environments and discover where you fit best in the industry.
Virtual School
The Academy of Sport Virtual School delivers the Diploma of Project Management (BSB50820), Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420), and Diploma of Remedial Massage (HLT52021) in partnership with the Brisbane Heat, Gold Coast Suns, and Q Academy.

Esports
Step into the fast-growing world of esports with our unique dual Diploma of Sport (SIS50321) and the Diploma of Information Technology (ICT50220). Delivered over 18 months at TAFE Queensland’s South Bank campus, this industry-first course is fully contextualised to the gaming world.
You’ll gain the skills to manage teams and events in a sporting context while building ICT expertise for esports and gaming, supported by industry experts and hands-on experience in this fast-growing global industry.
