Course overview

Get ahead in your dream career with this high level, double diploma. Gain the advanced skills and specialised knowledge to work as an interior designer or building designer. According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, the number of people working as interior designers grew very strongly in the past few years. The industry is projected to see strong growth in the future with around 7,000 job openings expected over the next five years.

Working on simulated projects you will learn to produce and present refined design ideas and plans to clients and industry. Utilising a suite of software programs for computer-aided design (CAD) you will develop building design concepts by producing drawings and models. You'll also learn how to work with a client to develop and negotiate a design brief, determine lighting requirements, create colour schemes, and formulate creative design solutions for interior residential spaces.

This course meets the minimum academic requirements for a Medium Rise Building Design Licence with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC). Graduates will also be able to join the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) as a Graduate Member which, with additional workplace experience, leads to Associate Membership.

Upon successful completion of this course you may find work as an interior decorator, building designer or interior designer. This comprehensive double diploma will allow you to develop your multidisciplinary capability, positioning you to add value to a range of organisations.
