Advance your career in the sports and fitness industry with this higher-level qualification. This course will give you the skills to become a qualified sports development manager or coach. According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook Service, there is very strong future growth predicted for people working as sports coaches, instructors and officials. They predict there will be around 28,000 job openings in this large occupation over the next five years.
In this course you'll cover coaching fundamentals including how to plan and deliver coaching programs for high-performing athletes. You'll also be introduced to the area of sports development and discover how to design, deliver and manage a range of community sport and recreation activities for the general public. You'll also develop essential industry skills including managing risk, leading and managing people, and maintaining workplace health and safety.
Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work as a coach or sports development manager across a diverse range of settings.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
Domestic Students
There are no Selection criteria requirements for Domestic Students, however if you'd like to complete the Brisbane Roar Football Program you'll need to download and complete the application form. If selected, TAFE Queensland may contact you for an interview, after the interview, you will receive an official enrolment offer.
International Students
The following Selection criteria requirements apply only to International Students:
Students should be a minimum of 18 years of age. Student visa applicants under the age of 18 will be accepted where they demonstrate that they will be accompanied by a parent, legal custodian or a suitable relative who is aged 21 or over. This arrangement requires the approval of the Department of Home Affairs. For more information visit Department of Home Affairs - Welfare Requirements for Student Visa Applicants under 18.
Completion of Year 12 or equivalent, or non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies, or currently employed in the industry. If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.
If you are not currently employed or volunteering in industry, during your course you will be required to complete vocational placement so you can start practising your new skills in a real-world environment. You’ll be required to work shifts determined by your placement provider, and these can include early mornings or late nights, any day of the week, including public holidays. TAFE Queensland may be able to assist in arranging suitable placements.
Completing placement is compulsory, and you will be expected to manage family and work commitments in order to complete your shifts. Depending on your specialisation you are required to complete up to 80 hours of placement to satisfy this component of your qualification.
It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.
You will be provided with a recommended reading list and/or required textbooks during orientation or at the start of each unit. The purchase of these resources may incur additional costs or you may be able to borrow them from the TAFE Queensland library network.
You may also be required to purchase resources, uniform items, including TAFE Queensland branded items. These details will be provided after enrolment or during orientation. The purchase of these uniform items may incur additional costs.

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
