Course overview

Advance your career in ICT with this high-level qualification. This course will give you the skills you need to become an assistant software developer or systems administrator. There is an increasing demand for trained workers in the industry, with projected growth expected to rise in the next five years.

You will become skilled in researching, planning, analysing and evaluating system program needs; writing and maintaining program code; debugging and monitoring applications; and creating cloud computing services. Our highly experienced staff are still strongly embedded in the industry and will give you the one-on-one guidance you need to succeed.

Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work as an assistant software developer or systems administrator. You will also get the foundation knowledge needed to undertake further studies in the field.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

Domestic Students
This qualification has no formal entry criteria however TAFE Queensland has the following selection criteria for this qualification:

  • Year 12 or equivalent
  • General Information Technology industry knowledge and/or experience.

If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

International Students
The following Selection criteria requirements apply only to International Students:

  • English Language Proficiency: Academic IELTS 5.5 (no individual band less than 5.0) or ISLPR 2+ on all skills or other - For a list of all English Language test accepted by TAFE Queensland International
  • Academic Requirements: Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent). Non school-leavers must have relevant work experience or qualification that indicates likely success of course completion. For more information on the international education achievement levels equivalent to Year 10 and 12.
  • Have specific knowledge in the subject area - this will be very helpful with understanding the program content.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills is desirable.

Students should be a minimum of 18 years of age. Student visa applicants under the age of 18 will be accepted where they demonstrate that they will be accompanied by a parent, legal custodian or a suitable relative who is aged 21 or over. Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
