Selection criteria
Must hold a Trade Certificate in one of the following areas:
- Electrical
- Instrument Fitter
Resources Required
You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes. This includes the use of safety glasses, protective footwear with covered uppers, steel capped toes and non-slip soles to AS2210, leather gloves to AS2161, and hair protection. You should also wear 100% cotton drill industry-standard clothing.
If you fail to meet these minimum standards of dress, you will not be permitted entry into practical classes.

Department of Employment, Small Business and Training Future Skills Funding is available for eligible students on two sets units from this course.
Process/Digital Automation Set of Units (six units)
The Process/Digital Automation set of units will enhance electrical and instrumentation fitter trade careers and further develop specialised skills and knowledge needed for an automation and control technician. This set of units will allow you to transition into jobs where you may not currently have the necessary skills and knowledge and contribute in sustaining workforce resilience.

- UEENEEI151A - Develop, enter and verify word and analogue control programs for programmable logic controllers
- UEENEEI152A - Develop, enter and verify programs in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems
- UEENEEI138A - Provide solutions to extra low voltage (ELV) electro-pneumatic control systems and drives
- UEENEEI125A - Provide solutions to fluid circuit operations
- UEENEEI139A - Diagnose and rectify faults in digital controls systems
Networking Set of Units (nine units)
The Networking set of units will widen your circle of specialised skills needed for automation and data communication analyst roles. Demand for these roles are rising in the workplace and the set of units will equip you with problem solving skills to monitor network system performance, implement network software additions and build network architecture.

- UEENEEI152A - Develop, enter and verify programs in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems
- UEENEED117A - Install and configure network systems for internetworking
To be eligible for funding for the Process/Digital Automation (six units), or the Networking sets of units (nine units), you must:
- hold a current Electrical or Instrumentation Fitter licence;
- be aged 15 years or older;
- no longer be at school;
- permanently reside in Queensland;
- be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen;
- enrol into all of the units from the desired set; Process/Digital Automation (six units), or Networking (nine units)
Replacement qualification
This qualification has been replaced by UEE43220 - Certificate IV in Industrial Automation and Control, as of 4 October 2020. A transition period applies to enable current students to complete their study. The transition period finishes on 3 October 2022. If required, enrolments will be transitioned into the replacement qualification.
