This short course describes the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a chainsaw. You will also learn how to maintain it in working condition. 

Operating a chainsaw applies to cross-cutting fallen timber using safe cutting techniques.

Entry requirements

Selection criteria

It is recommended that you have completed year 10 or are 16 years of age or above, and that you have had experience operating a chain saw and can safely operate equipment on sloping or uneven ground.

Please note that enrolments close one week prior to the course date.

Resources required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes.

This includes having access to and wearing:

  • appropriate attire including long sleeved shirts and trousers
  • safety footwear compliant with the Australian Standard AS 2210
  • safety glasses
  • gloves
  • Chaps and a safety helmet will be supplied by TAFE Queensland for you to use during class
