School Holiday Program 2024

Thinking about future study but not sure what you want to do? Or just looking for something fun to do during the school holidays? TAFE Queensland is hosting a series of workshops to give high school students a taste of what TAFE Queensland has to offer.

Give yourself a head start these school holidays with TAFE Queensland!

With your choice from a range of specially designed one-day workshops, you'll get a glimpse into post-high school study options with TAFE Queensland. Led by our industry-experienced teachers, these fun, hands-on sessions are not just a great way to spend your holidays—they're also the perfect opportunity to connect with like-minded peers and discover your passion!

Entry requirements:

  • High School Students aged 15 years and older
  • Guardian’s approval: We’ll need their contact info and a nod of approval.
  • Student ID

Investment in Your Journey:

  • $70 per daily workshop

What happens on the day?

On the day

  • Meet at the Customer Service Centre of your chosen campus 15 minutes before your workshop starts (that's 8.45 am!). Your teacher will collect you from there.
  • If you are sick and can't attend, please contact us on schoolabsentees.goldcoast@tafeqld.edu.au 

What to bring

  • Don’t forget your packed lunch, snacks and your water bottle. You will get a break for morning tea and lunch but you won’t be allowed off campus to purchase any meals.
  • A notepad and pen.
  • Any personal equipment such as Asthma puffers or an EpiPen.
  • Enthusiasm and happiness galore!

What to wear

  • Comfortable casual clothes. You do not need to wear your school uniform.
  • You must wear enclosed shoes.
  • Be respectful with your clothing. No swear words, or inappropriate slogans. (If your clothing is considered offensive to others you may be asked to leave.)

What if I am sick or running late?

  • Students who cannot attend on the day are to contact TAFE Queensland via email schoolabsentees.goldcoast@tafeqld.edu.au.
  • Any students who do not attend within 30 minutes after the start of the workshop will have their parent/guardian contacted.

Join us for a fun-filled interactive day of beauty with global beauty & fashion makeup artist Jodie Watkins. 

What you will learn:
Skincare Essentials – What works best for your skin type, busting all the myths and figuring out what you really need for your skin. Colour Fundamentals – Matching your skin tone including colours that work best for you according to the colour wheel- using interactive colour swatches. Clean girl – Day makeup demonstration and hands on application, tips, tricks, brushes and products you cannot live without. Evening Smokey Eye Makeup – Take your look for day to night with ease. Showing all the tips needed to get you from day to night in minimal time.

Do you have sweet tooth? Don your aprons and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of cake baking and decorating. Spend the day with our expert cake baker and decorator crafting a memorable masterpiece to take home to your family and friends. This masterclass will offer insight into life as a pastry chef for a day!

Italian Pizza and Pasta Masterclass | Wednesday 18 September | 9am-3pm | Robina campus

Pretend you've made it to Italy this school holidays with a master class from our expert chefs on two of Italy's favourite dishes. Pizza and Pasta! enjoy hand crafting your pizza and pasta doughs then prepare them into traditional Italian dishes. This masterclass promises to excite you for a potential career path as a chef.

We've got the secret recipe for the perfect brew. Join our coffee industry expert as you spend the day learning about turning beans into liquid gold. Once you've mastered this learn the skill of latte art to transform your brew into the perfect cup to start your day. This masterclass promises to prepare you to embark on a creative career in the Hospitality industry.

Don your aprons and witness the magic of flour power! You will mix, knead and bake your way to delicious success, crafting your own lunch and snacks from scratch. This interactive baking adventure teaches the basics and offers insights into the dough-filled opportunities in the food industry.

Future Filmmakers: From script to screen
You’ll get the awesome chance to turn a one-page script into a cool scene. You’ll learn how to organize your friends as a crew, direct your actors, and nail each take. Then, you’ll edit your creation, adding music and sound effects to bring the magic of movie-making to life.

Unleash Your Creativity: Photoshop Essentials for Stunning Designs
Dive into the fundamentals of graphic design with a hands-on Photoshop master class! Discover the secrets of finding unique fonts and high-quality, free-for-commercial-use images. With these tools at your fingertips, you'll craft a band poster from scratch. Plus, you’ll walk away with a printed masterpiece to showcase your newfound skills.


Collaborative Songwriting and Music Production Experience Designs | Monday 16 September | 9am-3pm | Coomera Creative campus 

This is a unique opportunity to spend a day in the recording studio writing, recording, producing and performing on a song we will create collaboratively from scratch. You’ll be able to take the demo away with you at the end of the session. Warm up those vocal chops and bring in some great song ideas and let’s make some music!

We’ll take you behind the scenes of the community services industry and engage in discussions, hands-on activities, and case studies to gain a comprehensive understanding of the crucial role community services play in creating a healthier, more supportive society.

Animal Science Day  | Thursday 19 September | 9am-3pm | Ashmore campus 

Get ready for an exciting workshop learning how to care for our cuddliest, cutest friends! Take a tour of our facilities, create enrichment toys for homeless animals, enjoy a presentation on caring for Australian wildlife, participate in hands-on tutorials in bandaging and microscopy, and learn about the role of a veterinary nurse. Explore the pathways to a rewarding career in animal care!

THE LEGAL STUFF

  • Student registration closes at 11.30pm (AEST) on Wednesday 4 September 2024 unless sold out.
  • Invoice will be issued upon enrolment and requirements payment in full prior to full workshop.

  • Students who cannot attend on the day will contact TAFE Queensland via email schoolabsentees.goldcoast@tafeqld.edu.au
  • Any students who do not attend within 30 minutes after the start of the workshop will have their parent/guardian contacted.
  • Approval of all refunds is at the discretion of TAFE Queensland. Claims are to be sent to schoolabsentees.goldcoast@tafeqld.edu.au for assessment.
  • Each claim will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and will require supporting documentation such as a medical certificate.
  • No general refunds or cancellations requests, without supporting documentation attached will be accepted after sales close at 11.30pm (AEST) on Wednesday 4 September 2024.

What You Need to Know

As a TAFE Queensland School Holiday Program student, students have a responsibility to:

  • Treat others with courtesy, respect and fairness;
  • Respect the safety, well-being and property of others;
  • Refrain from behaviour that may be perceived as unsafe, intimidating, discriminating, harassing, bullying or disruptive to others;
  • Respect TAFE Queensland resources and facilities;
  • Use computing and electronic resources appropriately;
  • Bring along any required health items such as EpiPens, medications etc.

Student Misconduct

In the case of serious misconduct, a parent/guardian will be contacted at once and asked to pick up the student from campus within a reasonable timeframe.
