Course overview

Designed for people currently employed in turf management with previous studies and experience in the industry, this course will help you further your career and progress into a management role.

According to the Australian Government's labour market insights, the number of greenkeepers is expected to grow over the coming years with over 20,000 workers expected by 2026.

This practical course will develop your ability to not only manage a golf course or sports turf facility, but also to manage individuals in the workplace and develop or review management practices. It includes assessment tasks that incorporate onsite projects and seamlessly combine work and study, ensuring you graduate with skills and knowledge that are immediately transferable to the workplace.

Successful completion of this course will provide you with the practical experience you need to work as an assistant or manager in turf-related businesses or local council settings.

Entry requirements

To commence this qualification an individual must have:

  • completed a Certificate III in Sports Turf Management or an equivalent turf management trade level qualification

or

  • a certificate III level qualification in amenity horticulture combined with two years current work experience in a trade level role at a sports turf facility.

Resources required

As this course is delivered online you will need to have access to computer with up-to-date software including the Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.

Students will also need to have access to a reliable internet connection in order to obtain their online learning resources and attend Zoom/Microsoft Teams meetings with their teachers.

As students will be working in the sports turf industry, you will also need to access specific equipment within your workplace from time to time.

Important information

There is no requirement to attend a TAFE Queensland campus as this course is delivered 100% online. Students therefore have the ability to undertake this course from anywhere within Australia provided that they have the 'Required Resources'.

Assessment methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
